Objectives & Responsibilities of the Home & School Association

  1. Aid and educate parents in parenting skills, including health, nutrition, discipline, and spiritual development.
  2. Strengthen the relationship between the home, school, and church.
  3. Aid in the recruitment of students for the school and assist the church in providing funds so all students may attend church school.
  4. Assist the church school in providing funds for needed equipment, materials, and library resources.
  5. Provide activities that promote social interaction between the home, school and church.
  6. Assist the school in recruitment of volunteers for such activities as teaching assistance, field trips, drivers, home-room parents, plant improvement and beautification and other special projects requiring volunteer assistance.

To hold an official position within our Home & School Association you must be a registered member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and voted in by our School Board. 

Personal qualities should reflect a team-player mentality, the ability to self-direct, and a genuinely kind and loving attitude. 


Positions include: Leader, Assistant Leader, Secretary, and Librarian.

We love having dedicated and positive Room Parents assisting our teachers within their classrooms!

Each year, a room parent is designated to each of our four classrooms to assist the teacher with moderate tasks such as: 

  • Making copies and cutouts
  • Decorating bulletin boards
  • Passing out supplies during activities
  • Reading stories to the class or to groups
  • Light grading with Teacher Manuals
  • and more!

The amount of time a Room Parent spends in the classroom is to be determined by the Teacher and Parent together, it is preferred that whatever arrangement is made is honored by the Room Parent as much as possible. In order to apply as a Room Parent, we kindly ask that you complete the following tasks:


  • Attend the brief Volunteer Session during our Open House (or view the presentation online at home)
  • Become Live Scanned through the Southern California SDA Conference
  • Sign the Volunteer Agreement
  • Arrange the schedule with the Teacher

No time to commit to a weekly or daily schedule? No worries! We welcome parent volunteers with limited schedules to assist with Field Trips, Fundraisers, Recess & Lunch Duty, and School Events. *Live-scan required if working with students

Are you an athlete yourself and interested in leading out our young people in sports?

Coaches should be passionate go-getters who can efficiently run team practices, games, and other events. We strive for exceptional sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome of games, and want our students to learn the true meaning and resposibility of teamwork.


Considerations for Coaches:

  • Must be livescanned
  • Sign Volunteer Agreement
  • Be compassionate and loving toward students
  • Responsible for setting up practice/training schedules
  • Organizes team events (end of season parties)

AVAS is always looking for exceptional and qualified substitute teachers to add to our roster!

Requirements for Substitute Teachers:

  • Must be Seventh-Day Adventist
  • Must be livescanned
  • Must hold a Bachelors degree in any field
