COVID-19: Common Questions

See some common questions and answers about school in Fall 2022, or call us at 661-942-6552.
  • Are school hours changing?

    School hours are:

    Mon-Thurs

    8am–3:15pm

    Friday

    8am–12:30pm

  • Will school meet physically or virtually?

AVAS has resumed classes in-person, though we are prepared to offer virtual instruction should a classroom or the school be required to shutdown in-person instruction (or in the event of positive cases within a classroom), as mandated by the Dept. of Public Health.

Classes run from Mon-Th 8am-3:15 pm and on Fridays 8am-12:30pm.

  • How will you ensure safety among students?

We intend to follow state, local and CDC protocols, as well as those from our SDA Conference.

We offer optional weekly testing through Heluna Health and Abbot Binax rapid antigen tests.

Our small classroom sizes will be a huge benefit in keeping students and staff safe.

We recommend mask-wearing and physical distancing whenever and wherever possible.

  • Will my child's learning be affected by the changes?

Our teachers are prepared to stick to our curriculum and make the learning process as smooth as possible, even if there are interruptions or changes in the school year.

We do advise parents to have a social-emotional check-in with their child regularly and report to staff and teachers if there is something of concern.

  • What protective measures are the school taking?

Vaccination is presently considered the first line of prevention, according to the CDC and CDPH.

Please find the link below to our Covid Safety Plan (CSP) that outlines more of our protocols.

  • How many children are in each class?

No more than 20 students in each 1st–8th classroom, and no more than 12 in TK–Kindergarten.

  • Will supplies (masks, sanitizers) be provided?

Classrooms will be equipped with handsanitizer and cleaning products, but protective face and eye wear will not be provided unless in emergency circumstances. Parents are asked to send their child with a mask upon entering campus, as well as 2 backup masks.

  • Is masking required?

Starting March 12th, 2022, masks will not be required for staff and students. In all settings, masks are still strongly recommended for whoever desires to wear one.
